「Departure of the Offering Boat—Dedicating the Totem of ‘leftovers’ to the Sea」

Introducing the works at Chimney Square ✨

・「Departure of the Offering Boat—Dedicating the Totem of ‘leftovers’ to the Sea」 Toshiyuki Kuwabara

Mr. Kuwabara reconstructs various discarded materials (leftovers) that have lost their purpose into ceremonial Japanese boats. He uses only materials found in Hiketa for these projects❗

Here, we are exhibiting approximately 1,000 selected photographs from the 2,913 images captured during the dedication ceremony for the traditional Japanese boat at Sanagishima Hachiman Shrine!

Furthermore, since the technique has been completely lost and no longer exists in Kagawa Prefecture, we are extracting its characteristics through 3D scanning, and artist Mr. Kuwabara is creating it while contemplating the process.✨

The work is currently in production and steadily nearing completion😊

Viewing the work in progress is also part of the experience—please see it as “process art.” One of the joys is being able to visit repeatedly as it evolves into a changing work of art ❣

The leftover materials from Hiketa’s “leftovers” project are being transformed into a ceremonial Japanese boat under everyone’s watchful eyes. It won’t be long now until it’s dedicated to the sea! ❗ They plan to complete it this month and hold the launching ceremony on August 31st at Tanoura Beach in Hiketa. I look forward to seeing it finished✨
