“The Life Story Map of People Living in Hiketa area”
Introducing works from the former Ranri Industries ✨
・“The Life Story Map of People Living in Hiketa area” by Toshihiro Nii
In Nii’s work “The Life Story Map of People Living in Hiketa area” individuals connected to Hiketa serve as models. Key elements from their lives are illustrated within the piece, allowing viewers to instantly recognize the person depicted. This particular piece features the mayor of Higashikagawa City as its model 😄

We’re thrilled that artist Mr. Nii will be present at the exhibition venue almost every day during the Setouchi Triennale, so you can hear explanations about the works directly from him❕❕ Having him personally guide you allows his thoughts about the pieces to come across more directly, which is also part of why they’re so popular✨

And there’s another exciting perk☺
We’re giving away one postcard drawn by Mr. Nii to each visitor❕

These cards featuring illustrations that serve as keys to each person’s life have been incredibly popular. Even though I made a lot, they’re disappearing fast, so I had to rush out and buy more cards…😊

Cards are piled high on the desk ❗ I got one too 🎵

When the things I cherish align with those of the person who inspired me, I feel a sense of kinship and affirmation. Mr. Nii was deeply moved by the warm hospitality shown by the people of Hiketa. He decided to give cards to visitors as a tangible token of her gratitude, hoping to offer something tangible in return for their kindness. ✨

Not only cards, but also videos showing the creation process through time-lapse footage were displayed❕ Through extensive research, this meticulously crafted work was born✨ And this exhibition space is named “Hiketa Memory Printing Studio.” 😊

”By exchanging our individual values, we create opportunities to connect the town’s spirit with our own lives. As a result, we feel glad we did it.”
These words from he really resonated with me.
Through viewing the works, I hope visitors will enjoy not only the visible records but also the memories that linger in their hearts—the “Setouchi Triennale experienced through the five senses” that He wishes to convey. 🌊✨
