Spring Session: Inspection Tour to the Seto Ohashi Bridge Area (Sei Island, Shami Island)②
And then lunchtime arrived—the long-awaited meal time 😆
The highlight of this tour, the local specialty “sea bream Somen noodles” featured a magnificent sea bream atop the noodles. Everyone was mesmerized by the unexpectedly large fish and its beautiful presentation📷❗

I thoroughly enjoyed a delicious lunch while chatting with the mothers who prepared it for us ✨
Next, we traveled by bus, arriving at Shami Island while taking in the beautiful scenery of the sea and the Seto Ohashi Bridge❗

“Layers, Strata, Stratum” by artist Tanya Preminger.
This 6.5-meter-tall hill is formed by piling up granite soil, which is abundantly produced in Kagawa Prefecture. The contrast between the blue sky and the green hill is beautiful 🌿 From the summit, you can take in the surrounding scenery!
And finally, here is Yoshitaka Nanjo’s work.

The exterior looks like it stepped right out of a Ghibli film—just trying to enter gets you excited❗ Inside, the terrain of the Seto Ohashi Bridge is recreated within a house, with projections of the surrounding sea and nature. Water quietly fills the space, letting you experience the majestic history of the Seto Inland Sea. Time flows gently in this fantastical interior, making it the perfect finale to the tour. 😌

While I’ve been writing about the artworks so far, this tour also aimed to examine challenges and initiatives—such as how to prepare for welcoming visitors to Setouchi and what kind of hospitality to offer. Now it’s time to fully put what we’ve learned into action in the Hiketa area and really get things going✨
I’ll also be sharing the process behind creating the artworks, so stay tuned🎶
