“Layered Information”

Introducing works from San’shū Izutsu Residence✨

・“Layered Information” by Yuka Numata

This work is displayed outdoors within the grounds of Sanshu Izutsu Residence❕
It visualizes the changing times by layering fishing flags—which are losing their role and culture alongside shifts in communication methods and the transformation of port towns due to aging populations and depopulation—with modern materials like iron beads and plastic waste❣

Students are also captivated by the intricate and dynamic artwork ✨
During production, we struggled to collect gold and black plastic bottle caps, but thanks to the community’s support, we gathered enough. It’s clear both colors serve as accents and play vital roles ☺

By recycling plastic bottles and reducing waste, this project also contributes to the top priority of reducing consumption, resulting in an environmentally friendly artwork!
The creation process is also on display within the grounds of Sanshu Izutsu Residence✨

It’s truly moving to see this attempt to recreate the large fishing flags using digitally preserved data from modern technology😮 The detailed explanation of the artwork and the process leading up to it is provided, so please be sure to read it alongside your appreciation of the piece✨

Additionally, a workshop by Yuka Numata will be held on August 24th during the summer session❕ If you’re interested, please check the “Event Calendar” below☺
