Iron Bead Craft Workshop

On July 7th, Setouchi Triennale artist Yuka Numata held a workshop at Hiketa Junior High School in Higashikagawa City. ✨ Under the theme of “Expressing Digital in Analogue,” she used iron beads to express bugs and errors that only occur on a monitor, and taught the students how to create their own works❗

We used colorful “iron beads” to create the artworks! 😊

Each student chose their favorite illustration, then chose their favorite color from the 47 colors of iron beads using their own creative sense, and arranged them ✨

Even though they chose the same illustration, everyone expressed it differently, creating original works. The students had a great time exchanging feedback with each other❗

When asked for their impressions, the students said, “I was thinking about going because it’s close by, but now I absolutely want to go!” It was clear that their interest in Setouchi Triennale has grown even stronger. 😄

Numata said, “Since the Setouchi Triennale is being held in this area, I want my work to make people realize how interesting art is,” and it was clear that this message was conveyed to the children through the workshop. ✨

Numata’s Triennale creations are fishing flags made from modern materials like iron beads and plastic waste, which will be exhibited on the grounds of Sanshu Izutsu Yashiki❕
